Ever get flashes of inspiration? A sudden rush of amazing ideas?
You could be anywhere when it strikes.
Perhaps when you first wake, sitting bolt upright, as if you’d been dreaming the answer all along. Or perhaps the opposite, lying wide eyed, tossing, turning, as if sleep couldn’t happen until this idea had surfaced. Perhaps it’s at the gym, where the purging of sweat and emotions makes way for this celestial download. Perhaps it’s in the moment, walking the dog, on a sunny day whimsically with your head in the clouds. Or dressing, looking in the mirror, when a flash of recognition and realization strikes. It could strike when your drunk, swaying on a dance floor, or stuffing your face with something you shouldn’t be eating. Showering, flying, cooking or weeping; Inspiration has no rhyme or reason. No method to its decent. What we do with it, the party afterwards, is really what matters the most.
Sometimes we write it down, scribbling it on what ever is available or adding it to the notes in our trusty smart phone. But sometimes we don’t, so struck with this idea in the moment we think I’ll remember that, there’s no way I’ll forget that little piece of genius.
But chances are we rarely do. In fact all these notes, scattered about our journal are gems, years of them, that stay within the secret pages of our most private and closed world.
Shouldn’t these small pieces of genius be part of our everyday life? At the time they were enough to get us excited. We felt flushed and full with a heady mix of endorphins and adrenalin. We felt found the nugget of truth we’d been waiting for.
So here’s the game changer.
Make a visual business or life plan if you like.
Why? Because you and your brain will encounter this kind of plan everyday. It won’t be some words on a white page in a drawer in your desk or cupboard. It will be a living plan you see and interact with everyday. In short you can’t ignore it. And therefore you are more likely to take action on it.
It’s just like advertising. It’s your own life plan advertised to you. Your own brand being endorsed to your brain, day in and day out.
So how do we do this?
One simple way is to get a pin board and of course some pins. That’s right, a pin board. Any $2 shop has them. Get those pieces of genius from out of your head onto some paper and onto that board. If you like things to be pretty then you can get colourful pens and paper and write your flashes of genius out. You can go one step further and find pictures from magazines to support and endorse your words.
If non of that appeals just write out your flashes of inspiration big enough to see so that your brain can’t ignore it.
Now of course there’s a more sophisticated way to do all of this. There’s a system and a method.
If you want more information on this then get in contact and I’ll send you a template for a basic visual business plan.
But for now, don’t waste your genius. If you do your brain may just stop giving them because it’s learnt not to bother.
Get it out if your head, it’s busy enough anyway. Get it on paper and the get it on the wall. Make your ideas and life a masterpiece. If you don’t, then know one else will. Except if you pay a coach, then they’ll do this for you!
May your inspiration come like a torrential down pour.
To your masterpiece.
